Super Cure for the Common Cold!

image About a year ago I stumbled across an awesome trick for beating a cold (or the flu).  Hydrogen Peroxide!

I do not say this lightly...  IT'S ALMOST A MIRICLE CURE!

Here is how it works.

  1. Lay down on your side.
  2. Have someone take a small capful (or a few drops) of Hydrogen Peroxide and put it in your ear.
  3. Let the solution bubble and fizz for 5 - 10 minutes.
  4. Tip your head and clear out the excess (and gunk).
  5. Flip your head over and repeat in the other ear.

Repeat every 6 hours (or so) until you feel better.  That's it!

It's worked for me.  It's worked for my wife.  It's worked for my kids.  I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.  Just a simple guy that stumbled across a cold remedy that works well for me  ...Your mileage may vary.

You can pick up a 16oz bottle of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide from your local pharmacy for less than a $1.

There is some science behind this theory.  I have read a few studies that talked about viruses entering via the ear canal.  I have seen a bunch of "medical-ish" articles touting the power of Hydrogen Peroxide.

If in doubt, Google it.  You will be impressed at the power of Hydrogen Peroxide (because everything you read on the Internet is true)!  All kidding aside, this Hydrogen Peroxide lifehack has worked well for me and my family.

I've found that hydrogen peroxide works well as a preventative method. Preventing the infection is easier than curing the infection, because the infection spreads to areas that are hard to get to. Thus, I recommend concentrating more on prevention than on curing.

This is what I do every day as an easy prevention routine, and I rarely get a cold anymore. Whatever symptoms I do get go away within a day or less. I haven't been sick after I started doing this. The worse I'll get is the onset of a sore throat or slightly stuff nose, neither of which lasts long or is enough to prevent sleep.

1. Mouth/Throat: Use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash at least once a day, and gargle with it. This prevents the cold infection from getting to your throat. If you already have a sore throat, this will clear it pretty quickly. Just gargle frequently for a day and it should go away, depending on the severity of the infection.

2. Ear Canals: Use hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip in your ears every day, typically after a shower. This prevents the cold infection from getting into your ear canals. During the first applications there might be a lot of fizzing, but after further applications you will notice that there is nothing in your ears to kill anymore.

Here are some other ideas that I have had but haven't done very much testing with yet. (It's hard to perform a good test when there are very little symptoms due to #1 and #2.)

3. Nose/Sinus: I've used a nasal inhaler filled with a .75% solution (3% diluted twice with water) of hydrogen peroxide.

4. Lungs: I inhaled a .75% mist through the mouth (which kindof takes care of the throat at the same time).

[Doing #1 and #2 regularly prevents #3 and #4 from being a serious problem, which is why I don't have much results to share on those. And they can be a bit unpleasant, unfortunately.]

Basically, figure out what all the infection entry points are and disinfect them regularly. End of story, simple as that. I'm amazed and somewhat suspicious that modern medicine hasn't figured this out. Do a search on Google for "common cold" and "cure" or "prevent" and you'll get nonsense like "treat the symptoms and wait for it to run it's course". That is complete rubbish, and its a shame that anyone listens to it.

I just gargled and put drops of h2o2 in my ears. I feel better already. So simple and so cheap! I'm a convert and will be sharing this info w/all my friends. :)

A friend of mine gave me a ride home recently.   We were not sure how to get from Point A to Point B so he fired up his iPhone 4S Maps App...
