Shortcut for Creating a Task in Outlook

ShortCut CTRL-SHIFT-K

This is one of my most often used shortcuts in Microsoft Outlook.  CTRL-SHIFT-K is a quick and easy way to create a new task in Outlook.

To finish creating your Outlook task without touching your mouse...

  1. Type the Subject of your task on the task entry screen.
  2. Use ALT-G to pull up the Category selection box.
  3. Arrow up/down to highlight the category you want.  The Spacebar selects the category.  Then ENTER to close the Category selection box.
  4. Lastly, ALT-F4 then ENTER to save the task.

The Shift-Ctrl-K shortcut works on French Outlook 2007, but Alt+G doesn't work. Is this because of Outlook 2007 or the French version ?

Pierre, I am using Outlook 2003. In Outlook 2003, the button to select a category is labeled “Categories…” – In Outlook 2003, the “g” in the word “Categories…” is underlined (it’s hard to see) – This means, use ALT-G to “click” that button.

I am not sure if Outlook 2007 works the same.

Thanks Tim. It's VERY different in Outlook 2007. I'm a bit disappointed since a lot of people continue to give advice for Outlook 2003 while 2007 has been out for a while (Even GTD for Outlook from Davidco is not updated).
